Traditional Scrapbook Layout on (inter)National Scrapbook Day

Hello and Happy (i) National Scrapbook Day! Every year in May, National Scrapbook Day falls on the first Saturday. So I hope you are having a fabulous day scrapping away! I want to share a layout with you inspired by a sketch layout designed by Lisa on Sketch N Scrap.

NSD may 6th

I created a traditional scrapbook layout. I personally called it traditional because it’s a simple layout where I just cut and paste things down without doing any techniques. Fearless Scrapbook LayoutThe photos are from last summer where we took a hike along a trail. It was a little dark in some area or a little too bright in some area of the woods so that’s why the photos are not too great. Perhaps I should have edited the photos before printing them out but it’s okay – I don’t need perfection lol

I printed the photos 3×4 size and followed the sketch as I create this layout. I chose papers and embellishments that are warmer colors since it seems like a good theme for the outdoors in the summer. Then I added a few stickers with the outdoorsy theme from Shimelle Go Now Go collection. Then it’s done.

Some close up of the cute embellishments –

Scrapping more instax photos

Hello! Today I want to share a layout with more instax photos. My layout was inspired by Sketch 495 on Scrapbook Challenges.

Scrapbook Challenges Sketch 495 Aug 22

This sketch is very fun because it inspired me to use my sewing machine and use some bits and pieces of my scraps for this layout.

Scrapping more Instax photos (scrapbook layout)

It was a very sunny day as we were walking the Waterfront Trail. Even with the ‘Clear’ setting on the Instax camera, the photos came out pretty bright. But it was still fun, it was as though it had filters on it. I added some gold thickers and gold splatters since the instax film had the cute cartoons on it had the shiny gold too.

*tip: for better instax photos – I found that if you are in the shade on sunny days with the Clear setting, the photos will come out pretty good*

And previously I also created a layout inspired by a Sizzlin Summer sketch on Scrapbook Challenges last week as well, I thought I put it on this post as well. I used the same Shimelle True Stories collection.

2 Scrapbook Layout Share for Scrapbook Challenges

Hello! Today  I have two scrapbook layouts to share inspired by challenges over at Scrapbook Challenges. The first layout is inspired by Sketch 491:

sketch 491 july 25th

I created this layout where I am showcasing my new sunglasses 🙂

hello my new sunnies scrapbook layout

The funny thing is I lost them the following week when I went paddleboarding – I fell in the water like 3 times! Oh well, guess lesson learnt is not to wear them while paddleboarding. It’s ok, one good thing is I can scrapbook another layout when I get another pair!

About my layout – I use the papers from Dear Lizzy Serendipity paper pad. I did fussy cut those flowers from one of the patterned paper and used them as embellishment and used some of the 3×4 cut-apart for layering along with some scraps. I splattered some pink and yellow splatters for interest.

I did change the position of my photos from the sketch. I felt my face in the photo needed to rest on the papers so the layout seems more together and grounded.

We also have a weekly bonus challenge – Pattern Challenge at Scrapbook Challenges.

For my second layout – I created this fun layout using 2 instax photos with some fun polka dot patterned papers.

Scrapping Instax photos with polka dots

I actually included lots of different polka dot patterned papers here. I even included some of those patterned in the embellishments as well.

Scrapping Instax photos with polka dots

I used my Cameo to cut out a large title “Together” in white cardstock since the patterned papers were so colourful and I added a subtitle with Tim Holtz stickers “you can never have too much happy”. that little sticker books really have a lot of fun sayings that are perfect for scrapbooking. I mainly cut out those embellishments from the Shimelle True Stories paper pad as you have seen me doing many times in my previous layouts. I added white hearts on the polaroid shapes cut-apart to add more color contrast.

It’s pretty fun layout – I loved that I am able to scrap these Instax photos. I often find it hard to scrap Instax photos so I am glad I did it 🙂

That’s it for today. Hope I was able to inspire you create something today! Hop over to Scrapbook Challenges for more inspiration. Thanks so much for stopping by and Happy crafting!

Mixed media layout – ‘Such fun times’ Scrapbook layout

Hello! Happy Monday to you – hope your day is going well for you and that you had a wonderful weekend!

Today I have a mixed media layout to share with you :

IMG_0805-001

This layout is inspired by Scrapbook Challenges and this is the sketch on Scrapbook Challenges:

sketch 489 july 11

This was a really fun & messy layout to play with and I am so happy at how it turned out. I am trying my hand at more mixed media layout in my scrapbooking as I am currently taking some of Wilna Furstenberg‘s classes on iheartstudio.ca  so the style of the layout is also inspired by the art journal style in scrapbooking.

To create the background, I actually used a cardstock that I put away after I painted pink paint on it for a previous project. It just didn’t work out for me because I didn’t like how the paint strokes were on the cardstock. I didn’t want to throw it out because that would be wasteful and I convinced myself that I might be able to create something out of it later.

So for my layout, I started by adding some texture paste through a stencil that had different words on it. Once that is dry, I misted some aqua spray with a polka dot stencil but it didn’t turn out the way I like it.So once it dry, I added yellow paint through the polka dot stencil and also dab it around some of the pink paint area that I didn’t like.  Then I added my photos, I placed my photos on the right side of the layout mainly to cover the part where I didn’t like how the paint and the mist turned out. I also added the flourishes from Wilna’s Spring collection vertically behind the photos to create a place for my photos to sit on. Then I added some markings like how Wilna does them in her videos to add extra interest.

I stamped some faux stitched lines horizontally as inspired by the sketch and also to add some balance to the layout and added my title . Then I also adhered some tags with twine tied to it. I finished my layout with some splatters and stamped the date at the right hand corner where I usually like to add my date of when the photo was taken.

So I am glad at how fun this layout turned out to be, and I didn’t waste my cardstock and I challenged myself to really use the art journal style of scrapbooking. (my ‘never-throw-anything-away’ hoarding actually work out really well for this layout) The key is really, the layers in building the layout.

More close up pictures:

The texture paste is a little bit messy and smudged but I am fine with it, since it’s really more for interest and texture.

I added some #words to my journaling tag that I usually use when I upload it to my social media which I thought was pretty fun. We also have another challenge going on at Scrapbook Challenges which is really fun. So I was inspired to use my # in my journaling instead of my title.

Scrapbooking with a big bow

Hello everyone! I cannot believe it’s the end of June. It has been a quiet month for me in terms of crafting – too much going on in life and it had been a teeny more stressful. Those aren’t fun!

But what’s fun today, is I want to share a fun layout I created :

The gift of presence (scrapping with a bow)

This layout is inspired by Sketch 488 on Scrapbook Challenges:

june 27th

The different patterned paper and stitching looks so fun so I pull out my scraps and my sewing machine. I wanted it to be more fun, so I ruff up the edges and teared it up slightly

Then I felt like adding in some ink smooshing in my layout. I haven’t done that in some time and fits in my fun theme.

The gift of presence (scrapping with a bow)

I picked the Aqua color of my gelato and rub it onto some packaging and spritz some water onto it. The color turned out too light so I added another darker color (Snow Cone) and mixed it in. Then added some leftover splatters. The gift of presence (scrapping with a bow)

Here is my layout again:

The gift of presence (scrapping with a bow)

I scrapped these photos from my wedding. I was just overwhelmed with the love – friends and family really took the time to travel and made my day extra special. So to me, it was truly the gift of presence.

I added the bow because it’s so cute and pretty. I wanted it to be the focal embellishment so I added silver sequins to the centre.   I cut it with my Cameo.  I also cut my title with my Cameo from my own fonts. I chose the blue and silver because it’s my wedding colors. I did add two more blue strips just to balance it out and added more stitching. Then I finished it with some silver hearts.

Some close ups:

I really did like how it turned out. And I showed it to my husband, he said, “Oh that’s nice” (like he ALWAYS say) , “but oh, how come you got some ink smudges on it” – and it was funny because I told it was intentional and it was meant for added interest. I think he didn’t get it. But that added even more fun to my layout 🙂

Thank you cards using embossing techniques

Hello my crafty friends! I want to share some cards with you today using a technique I haven’t use in a long time!

Today’s challenge on Scrapbook Challenges is to create a Thank You card using any of the three layout sketches.

Card Recycle It May 18th

Such a fun challenge! I chose the middle sketch, the one with the sunburst/rays as my inspiration and created my card.

Thank you card

How I made my card:

  1. For my background: I took an embossing folder (Sizzix Tim Holtz Rays), and rub on Distress Inks ( Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Abandoned Coral and Festive Berries) on the debossed side of the embossing folder. I spritzed 2 spritzes of water and put my cardstock on it and closed the embossing folder and ran it through my Cuttlebug.
  2. After it’s dry, the embossed “rays” are slightly white, and I blended the same distress inks lightly. Then I diecut it with my largest stitched rectangles (Simon Says Stamp)
  3. I used my Cameo and diecut “Thank you”. I layered it 4 times so that it has that dimensional look. I adhered it in the middle of the right corner.
  4. Then I took my all time favourite Thanks stamp set (Hero Arts Stamp & Cut) and actually stamped all the sentiments with Versamark onto black cardstock and heat-embossed them with white embossing powder. Then I cut them into little strips like black label stickers.
  5. I adhered each label onto the rays like a sunburst effect. I adhered the panel onto black card base. Then I spritzed DIY perfect pearl mist on the card for extra shimmer effect!

Thank you card

It was a lot of fun so I made similar ones.

Thank you cardFor this card, I think I spritzed more water so the colors are more saturated.

Thank you cardThank you card

Thank you card

Then I decided make another one for a friend – which is more like a ‘hello’/encouragement card.Live Simply CardLive Simply Card

For this card, I use Wilna Furstenberg free cutfile and Tim Holtz small talks stickers. Pretty fun!

Using washi tape on my Scrapbook Layout

Hello my crafty friends! Today I have a layout to share – inspired by a sketch on Scrapbook Challenges.

I decided to use washi tape instead of patterned paper since I couldn’t fine the right colors of patterned paper in my stash. So I used my 2 inch washi tape roll as the background of my layout.

Nature Hike Scrapbook Challenges Scrapbook Layout

This is the brilliant sketch (Sketch 483) on Scrapbook Challenges:

Sketch 483 May 16th

I made some yellow splatters across the left side of the layout. Then I arranged my photos on the washi tape mat. My photos are about 2″ x 2.5″ since I wanted a more rectangular look rather than square. Since this is nature theme, I diecut some leaves with my Cameo as embellishments and adhered them as though the leaves are floating around the page. I diecut them out of white core green cardstock so I embossed them with checkered board embossing folders for some squared textured on the leaves.

Picture This Wedding Scrapbook Layout

Hello! Today on Scrapbook Challenges we are scraplifting design team member Lynn. I hope you are enjoying this series of “Liftapalooza”.

I created another wedding layout-

I love that I can use my watercolors to add some background color to my white cardstock. Even if I don’t have the matching color, I can always mix it out. I fussy cut the mason jars from the patterned paper as part of my embellishments. The top camera wood veneer I heat-embossed it to change the color and painted the ampersand wood veneer with pink paint. For some reason, I like my wood veneers colored lol

I hope you will check out Lynn’s blog and there are more inspiration on Scrapbook Challenges. Thanks for stopping by and Happy crafting!

#Costco scrapbook layout

Hello everyone! Today over at Scrapbook Challenges, we are scraplifting design team member Katie today.

Katie created this beautiful layout –

My layout:

#Costco shopping scrapbook layoutSupplies: Cardstock: Craft Smith     Patterned Paper: Shimelle True Stories, Dear Lizzy Serendipity      Stickers: American Craft Thickers Black Chalkboard

Isn’t it fun – who knew shopping together at Costco would be so fun and fun to scrapbook about it too! It’s a photo from last summer – we were going to have a summer BBQ and it’s best to go shopping together so everybody can pick what they like and not forgetting anything. But I think with group shopping, most likely we get more food than we actually need!

I managed to add machine stitching to my layout without any drama with my machine! That’s a first! lol  My embellishments are mostly from patterned paper which I fussy cut out. Definitely a good way to use up my paper stash.
