DIY Traveler Notebook Kit

Hello! Today I want to share something a little different and a first – that is a DIY Traveler Notebook Kit from my stash. I have previously made DIY scrapbooking kit before from my stash supplies but these days, my scrapbook supplies are in a box so I just grab whatever inspires me and that works for me.

I recently started using a Traveler Notebook (TN) as a journal or jotting down whatever I learn that day. I just stick down random scraps from my table from my scrapbooking or cardmaking projects. So I thought making a kit just to use in my notebook would be fun for a change.

For this month, I was inspired by Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog inspiration kit from Gossamer Blue March 2017 kits.

I love the teals and yellow so I took the color inspiration and created from my stash mostly teals and orange yellow colors.

DIY Traveler Notebook Kit

Honestly, it seems like a lot for a TN kit lol – but it’s okay, it just goes back to my stash if I don’t use it or if I get tired of it.

DIY Traveler Notebook Kit

I took 3×4 and 4×6 pocket pages cards from We R Memory Keepers Tangerine kit.DIY Traveler Notebook Kit

I also found matching colors cards from Project Life Honey Core Kit and Elle Studio. I figured that these cards would be nice to cut up for embellishments or use as journaling cards or tip ins in my TN.

Speech bubbles card

Love those speech bubbles cards from the inspiration kit, and found some in my stash.

Shimelle stickers -Embellishments for my DIY Traveler Notebook Kit

For embellishments, I added some of Shimelle’s Go Now Go diecuts and stickers.

Alphabet stickers for DIY Traveler Notebook Kit

I also added some alphabet stickers from October Afternoon. I am quite amazed I still have some much left.

I just put them all in this chocolate box I had and put it on my table. I also added my date stamp and a washi tape too. There are also some illustrations leftover from Wilna Furstenberg ‘s last year class Art2Heart (August) as well.

DIY Traveler Notebook Kit

We shall see what I would do with this kit. I don’t usually share my TN since I don’t do much with it except writing random things anyway but we shall see if I can make it pretty with the kit I created. Then I might share some pages lol

Thanks for stopping by and Happy crafting!

Counterfeit Kit Challenge Members Blog Hop

Hello everyone! It’s time for August Counterfeit Kit Challenge (CKC) Members Blog Hop. You must have arrived from Leslie’s blog!

Every month they have challenges to inspire you to create your projects. The challenges this month are:

For today’s post, I want to share the layouts and cards I created with my August kit. I created a coordinating page about my puppy which I previously created (you can check it out here) with my forgery paper. I found another photo of him taken on the same day which is clearer actually.

Today was fun Scrapbook layout

I used versamark ink with the same plus sign stencil I used on my previous layout. I just wanted the subtle marks on the background of the cardstock. I added some alphabet stickers and some diecuts I cut out with my Cameo. I also used some numbers thickers to document the date of the photos were taken.

I just love using my border punches. Love the look and I figured I must use it more on my layouts to get my investment worth 😉

I made some cards too with my kit. IMG_1186

The patterned paper was one the top corner of a 12×12 which I found it hard to use on a layout, so I just trim it down and put it on a card front and stamped a sentiment on it.

The next card, I used the leftover forgery paper I made and made a card with it. I layered some papers and added my stamped sentiment.

Then I also used some bits of paper and a cut apart card from my never ending scrap pile and leftover bits of one patterned paper from the kit as mats to create a simple layout inspired by Challenge #3 – Sounds Foreign to Me.

I scrapbook a photo of a B&B place I stayed in when I was visiting Montreal. I am not even sure how to pronounce it.  It was such a lovely place. I included a brochure of the place too since it had all the information and pictures in it. I used my sewing machine to add some stitching for some interest.

It has been a small kit this month, so I took some bits and pieces from my scrap pile for the projects.  And it’s great because the aim is to use up the stash build up right 🙂

As you all probably already know, I am the guest designer for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge for August. It’s been really exciting and fun. I can’t thank them enough for the wonderful welcome and support that they have given me. Thanks so much CKC!

Hop over to Tara’s blog next and enjoy the rest of the hop! Thanks for stopping by and Happy crafting!

“Friends” – Sketch N Scrap Card Sketch #80

Hello! Today I have a card to share with you. I used supplies from my August homemade kit and inspired with the sketch on Sketch N Scrap that is designed by Heather.

SNS 20th Aug Card

Here is my bright card with my homemade kit.

Friends card

I was inspired by the pennants on the sketch, but instead of creating the pennants, I added the pom pom trim which is kind of fun and cute. The original diecut had the word Bohemian on it, so I just my trusty old fun Dymo embossing label maker to make the pink tape “Friends” sentiment for my card.

Just a simple card share today! Hop over to Sketch N Scrap for more design team inspiration and we hope you will play along our sketches! Thanks for stopping by and Happy crafting!

Scrapping older photos – Challenge #1 at Counterfeit Kit Challenge

Hello everyone! Today on the Counterfeit Kit Challenge (CKC) is the first challenge of the month but first off, Happy Sandcastle Day!  (It’s a real thing actually, who knew)

To celebrate today being Sandcastle Day – CHALLENGE #1 :Happy Sandcastle Day. It‘s time to be a little nostalgic, be inspired by the most enjoyable childhood activity and create a project featuring sandcastles.

From my “La bohème” kit, I created a layout with older photos of my husband and his brothers at the beach when they were kids.

Sand Bump Scrapbook layout Counterfeit Kit Challenge #1 Aug6th

I guess they didn’t manage to build sandcastles but they did a great job at making the bump. Most importantly – they had fun! 🙂 Honestly, I don’t think I ever succeeded in building any sandcastle in my life.

For my layout, I was inspired to do some stenciling on my dark brown patterned paper since it was so plain. So I grab some white ink and a homemade stencil made with my Cameo.

So it’s really easy to create your own patterned paper or altered a look to a piece of patterned paper for added interest.

Shiny title of Sand Bump Scrapbook layout Counterfeit Kit Challenge #1 Aug6th

I created my title with two different alphabet stickers from my stash. I combined the brown glittered chipboard stickers from Fancy Pants and October Afternoon Mini Market stickers together for my title. It created a more fun look with the dimensional and flat alphabet stickers.  Besides, I didn’t have enough stickers left on my sheet anyway so it was nice to be able to spell out some words. I wrote a short blurp of the day with my Sakura gelly roller pen. It was very nice to write on actually.

I added my gold ribbon as part of the border behind my punched out edge of patterned paper. I just love the glittered brown alphabet stickers of my title.

I added some zig-zag and straight stitching to the layout for interest.

It was a lot of fun creating this layout with my kit. I was extremely pleased that I managed to add some fun techniques in this layout as well. I hope you will join us with this fun  CHALLENGE #1 :Happy Sandcastle Day and create a project featuring sandcastles. Hope over to Counterfeit Kit Challenge for more inspiration!

Thanks for stopping by and Happy crafting!

Counterfeit Kit Challenge – Forgery Paper

Hello everyone! On the 4th of every month the Counterfeit Kit Challenge has “Forgeries on the Fourth” on the blog. It has tutorials and inspiration of creating DIY version of the inspiration kit using your own stash.

From the inspiration kit – there was this kraft paper with the PLUS sign that caught my eye. 1

I created my own patterned paper using kraft cardstock and a stencil. (I already had the stencil cut out from my Cameo previously in my stash) I wanted a bit more texture so I used textured paste. You can most definitely use just paint or inks or markers.

Somehow it didn’t turn out too neatly and there were some gaps since it was a smaller stencil. If you want a continuous pattern with a smaller stencil, you will have to wait for the texture paste to dry before continuing. I was going to cut the paper in smaller pieces  for my projects anyway so it’s okay to have the gaps and the smudges probably will be covered up.IMG_0987

I created this layout with my kit – and use this forgery as a photo mat.

counterfeit kit challenge cutie scrapbook layout

I started painting some white brushstrokes on a brown cardstock just for some interest and added some yellow paint with a polka dot stencil to add some color and life to my layout. I also added some splatters because splatters are fun. Then I cut the circles from a freebie from Scrapbooks & Cards Today.

I used some of my washi tape and adhered them to white copy paper and used them as patterned paper since I really wanted more colors in my layout. If you go back to my post of the kit I created, I didn’t have enough colors. Some of the colors of my embellishments didn’t really go well with my layout. So other ways to add color, can be paint, inks or washi tape in this case.

I love the cute little trim too and I kept turning the little ‘poms poms ‘ for fun. I added journaling with my Sakura gel pen on to my layout. I backed the whole layout on a piece of patterned paper that wasn’t from the kit I created but it’s from my stash, and best of all it was actually a Christmas gingerbread man patterned paper. I used it more for the scripty pattern and muted color showing as a frame, so it was quite fun I got it used up.

As for the remaining DIY patterned paper, I will probably use them in other projects this month. That’s it for today! Hope you will share something that you counterfeit for your kit! I would love to see it! Thanks for stopping by! Happy crafting!

Homemade Scrapbooking Kit for Counterfeit Kit Challenge

Hello (again) – this is the second post of the day! I know right, I am busy busy crafting! lol

This is such a special post and a special month for me! This month I am the guest designer for Counterfeit Kit Challenge (CKC). If you don’t know about the Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog, it’s a blog where you use kit clubs as inspiration to make your own scrapbooking kit from your stash of supplies.

I had loved playing with CKC – I love making homemade kits from my stash. I have shared so many on my blog last year, but I have not been making any for a while now. I was away from home last summer and I moved my craft room when I came back last Christmas and my things were everywhere.  Naturally, the easiest was to just craft with the paper pads and my scrap bin that was on my desk all these time.

So this is really a wonderful opportunity to use my stash and I found out I still have a lot of pretty patterned papers that I had forgotten about.

This month’s inspiration is from The Papier Werkstatt.

Monatskit – papierwerkstatt – März 2016

I created my kit – La bohème. (No, not the opera 🙂 – it’s that just my kit had the bohemian feel to it.

August CKC Homemade Kit 2016

La bohème

My kits usually  differ a lot from the kit inspiration because how I usually build my homemade kit is I pick ONE patterned paper from the kit inspiration and go from there, but this time I went with the cardstocks and specialty papers from the kit inspiration.

La bohème kit - start with cardstock

Supplies:  Cardstock: Craft Smith      Mulberry Paper: Daiso Japanese Handmade Paper

I had some neutrals and added the lovely white and cream mulberry specialty paper. I hoarded those handmade papers forever because they feel so nice and I just love the texture.

From there I added to my kit some vintage-style patterned papers. La bohème kit

Supplies:    Patterned papers: My Mind’s Eye, DCWV, Pressed Petal

But it’s really a lot of browns – so I have to add in more of my favorite color : PINK. La bohème kit

Supplies:    Patterned papers: My Mind’s Eye

For the embellishments, I recently got this cool ephemera pack from Michaels – it’s from the Recollections Boho collection (hence the name and theme for my kit this month)La bohème kit

Supplies:  Ephemera pack- Recollections Boho, Tags-Craft Smith, Rub ons- Basic Grey, Ribbons – May Arts, Flowers – Recollections

I picked out mostly the pinks and yellows to add the pop of color I needed for those browns. I added some ribbons and kraft tags that would go with the color scheme of the kit.

When I see a kit/collection the CKC chose to counterfeit, I choose my papers based on the color scheme or the patterns. The Basic Grey Second City collection had polka dots, striped, lines, grid patterns. First, I saw the multi-colored polka dot from Basic Grey and I chose one multicolored polka dot paper from my stash and build my kit from there. Here are my paper choices:- lots of striped, polka dot and grid patterns. Most of the papers are from Heidi Swapp No Limits, My Mind’s Eye Lost&Found, My Mind’s Eye Bohemian, Christmas collection
paper choices for counterfeit kit challengeThen I added the items for embellishments  – word/alphabet stencil template, ribbons, washi tape, stamps, wood veneers. brads, paper clips and felt flowers that would coordinate with the papers.
stencils, ribbons accessories to homemade kit
There were pretty metal flair embellishments in the Basic City Second City collection.
I wanted to forge my own so I created faux metal flairs from epoxy stickers. I have been making my own DIY flairs. There are a lot of youtube tutorials as well if you are interested. It is so easy and fun. You can customize to whatever you like and use up all the scraps. The epoxy stickers are inexpensive and can be purchased from ebay. You will need a 1″ circle punch or die because the epoxy circles are 1″. To show an example of how I made mine, I took some stamps, punches and scraps of paper.

You can use any stamps, or tiny word stickers, any stickers other tiny punched-outs or diecuts to customize your own flair. Because you can customize your own flair, you can make it to match your layouts as embellishments.
Here is a layout I made with this kit. I wanted to include a challenge for myself – Using stamps on layouts. That’s why I included lots of stamps in my kit. Stamps can be used directly onto the layout or stamped and cut out and use it as embellishments.
#luvnature scrapbook layout
I also added some machine stitching and a black glitter ribbon for a fun texture element. I stitched the words title using We r memory keepers script stencil template. I colored my wood veneer with Distress inks and added a pop of red diecuts embellishments.
I will continue to use this kit and might use alongside with my two August kits. It was a fun kit to put together. I hope you will try making your own scrapbooking kit  as well as making your own embellishments from your stash! Try to include stamps in your layouts as well. Thanks for stopping by and Happy crafting!

“Baby Girl Coming Soon” Scrapbook Layout

Hello! If you are looking for the Sketch~N~Scrap blog post, please click here

Today I have a baby shower layout to share. Although it’s a baby girl shower layout, I used more of blues instead of pink. We didn’t use a lot of pinks for our decor as well.  I used most of the supplies from my July CKC homemade kit. Baby shower scrapbook layout

I created this double page layout inspired by a sketch designed by Laura Whitaker over at ScrapMuch?

For the baby shower, instead of regular diaper cake, we made sushi platters. The diapers are the sushi rolls, with  black cardstock as the seaweed wrap. We used baby socks and blankets as the sushi filling and the sashimi/egg roll. Pretty fun centerpieces.

I did some stitching with my sewing machine. I shared on FB and Instagram not too long ago that I inherited a vintage sewing machine that works well. I tried my hand at adding machine stitching onto the layout. It’s a not too perfect, fun messy look. I definitely will try incorporate more machine stitching in my layout.

Supplies used:

  • Papers: Heidi Swapp No Limits, My Mind’s Eye Lost and Found, We r Memory Keepers 3×4 card:Tangerine collection
  • Punch: EK Success Flowers& Leaves, American Crafts Knockout Border Punch System – Scallop
  • Ink – Ranger Black Soot distress ink (inked edges), Speedball Calligraphy (splatters)
  • Stickers – American Crafts thickers – Black Poolside, Bingo Chip
  • Stamp: Amy Tan Today roller stamp
  • Others: Gems

Crafting for me had been slow these few days. I have been watching a lot of dramas instead. Anyways, thanks for stopping by and Happy crafting!

“Wonderful Parents” Scrapbook layout

Today I have my last layout share using my June homemade CKC scrap kit. I managed to get 11 layouts done altogether. Some were not shared on the blog and some were shared on Flickr.

Wonderful parents scrapbook layout

This picture is of my parents on my wedding day. It was so nice to have them fly all the way from Malaysia to attend my wedding. I am so blessed to have them as my parents. Words alone cannot express how grateful I am for them and how much I love them. The story is that usually when my parents pose for a photo, their facial expressions is almost always unnatural; they won’t be looking in the camera or they will have awkward smiles. But surprisingly, all the photos of them taken on my wedding, they have very natural happy expression. So I guess they were really happy that day! 🙂

I used all the scraps leftover in my kit for this layout. I fussy cut the border flowers on the top right and the hanging flowers with the label out from the patterned paper. I just thought it was more interesting that way.

Supplies used:

  • Papers: DCWV Frech Country Style, GCD Studio – Antiquities
  • Punch: Martha Stewart Crafts – 3-1 Butterfly, Garden Butterfly
  • Ink: Ranger Distress Ink- Walnut stain
  • Alphabets: American Crafts Thickers – Dear Lizzy Treehouse, Blush-It’s a girl
  • Others: rhinestones, sequins, gold thread, doily misted with pink metallic paint

I am glad to have used my entire June kit. Looking forward to move on to something different in July! Thanks for stopping by and Happy crafting!

“The Best of Times” scrapbook layout

I have a layout to share today. I scrap more of the photos of the hike I took at Scarborough Bluffs. Well it was more of a walk in the park but it was still very enjoyable. The view is just beautiful. I may have gone overboard with the flower embellishments.. lol But I love it!

The best of times scrapbook layout

I created this layout inspired by a sketch designed by Katrina Hunt over at My Scraps and More sketch blog.

Sketch #108

Supplies used:

  • Papers: DCWV-French Country Stye, My Mind’s Eye- Lost and Found, Heidi Swapp No Limits, BasicGrey – Highline (3×4 card)
  • Die: Sizzix Tim Holtz Tattered Floral Die, Crate Paper Maggie Holmes Confetti
  • Punch: Martha Stewart Crafts – 3-1 Butterfly
  • Others: Brads, acrylic flowers, rhinestone

Yesterday I also shared on Flickr a layout I made also inspired by a sketch on My Scraps and More. Hope on their blog for more inspiration and fun challenges.

Sketch #107

I am almost at the end of my June Homemade CKC kit. Tomorrow I will most likely share the last layout made with the kit. Pretty fun making my own kit from my stash and definitely will do it again next month. Thanks for stopping by and Happy crafting.
