When I see a kit/collection the CKC chose to counterfeit, I choose my papers based on the color scheme or the patterns. The Basic Grey Second City collection had polka dots, striped, lines, grid patterns. First, I saw the multi-colored polka dot from Basic Grey and I chose one multicolored polka dot paper from my stash and build my kit from there. Here are my paper choices:- lots of striped, polka dot and grid patterns. Most of the papers are from Heidi Swapp No Limits, My Mind’s Eye Lost&Found, My Mind’s Eye Bohemian, Christmas collection

There were pretty metal flair embellishments in the Basic City Second City collection.

I wanted to forge my own so I created faux metal flairs from epoxy stickers. I have been making my own DIY flairs. There are a lot of youtube tutorials as well if you are interested. It is so easy and fun. You can customize to whatever you like and use up all the scraps. The epoxy stickers are inexpensive and can be purchased from ebay. You will need a 1″ circle punch or die because the epoxy circles are 1″. To show an example of how I made mine, I took some stamps, punches and scraps of paper.

You can use any stamps, or tiny word stickers, any stickers other tiny punched-outs or diecuts to customize your own flair. Because you can customize your own flair, you can make it to match your layouts as embellishments.
Here is a layout I made with this kit. I wanted to include a challenge for myself – Using stamps on layouts. That’s why I included lots of stamps in my kit. Stamps can be used directly onto the layout or stamped and cut out and use it as embellishments.

I also added some machine stitching and a black glitter ribbon for a fun texture element. I stitched the words title using We r memory keepers script stencil template. I colored my wood veneer with Distress inks and added a pop of red diecuts embellishments.
I will continue to use this kit and might use alongside with my two August kits. It was a fun kit to put together. I hope you will try making your own scrapbooking kit  as well as making your own embellishments from your stash! Try to include stamps in your layouts as well. Thanks for stopping by and Happy crafting!

  1. Great take on the kit – you really picked out the colours and patterns well and gave yours a really similar feel. The flairs are a lot of fun and proof that “forgeries” don’t need to be complicated!
I really like the stiching on the layout 🙂 Good Luck!

  2. What a fabulous kit! I love how different it is from mine (we had the same one!) but how easy it is to see the connections between your kit and the original. The flairs are inspired – I must have a hunt for some epoxy stickers!

    Good luck! x
